Catching up & jumping into 2020…

Hey Friends. I know, it’s been awhile since my last blog post. Life has been a wild ride these last few months, and my blogging definitely didn’t get the attention I had planned. For that, I am sorry. I hope you guys will jump back in with me as I work on my blogging commitment skills in 2020.

Speaking of that, Happy New Year! I hope you all find yourselves excited going into this New Year. This time of year generally brings on a mass commitment of New Year resolutions and excitement for bettering ourselves in the coming months. Well, technically for the year… but lets be honest, not many New Year resolutions make it a full year. Best of intentions, sure. Follow through seems to be a little different story though. I am just as guilty as the next guy (or gal). Over the years I have made my fair share of New Year resolutions, only to find myself falling short just a few months in. I get credit for the good months though, right? Oh well, can’t blame a girl for trying.

So, what can we do different this year? For me personally, I don’t plan to make a specific New Year resolution. Instead I want to make a commitment to myself and my family. Not a promise to keep a cleaner house (although that would be great), or to lose thirty pounds (yeah, that would be nice too), or even setting aside time to do more art projects. No, none of those things. This year, I want to be more committed to being committed. Does that make sense? I want to honor the commitments I have already made. That might mean I slow down and lighten my schedule and prioritize more. Actually, that is exactly what that means. I also need to get better with a calendar. So instead of buying that crazy cute calendar and looking at it all year, this year I am going to fill in those little daily squares. I know it sounds minimal, but it is something that I have actually found hard to do.

This year, I want to be a better wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend… the list goes on. I want to be a better me for all of those I love. I am quickly learning that part of taking care of everyone around me means I take care of me, too. You read that right sweet friend, you have to take care of you. I never made time for the things that help keep my feet on the ground, I was to busy trying to do that for those around me. What I found out in 2019, is that a drained & exhausted me does nothing for those around me.

So what are the things that feed my soul and put a pep in my step? What do I need to be fueled and ready to hop into the daily hustle and bustle of life? As much as I would love to say that a monthly spa day would do that, that would be a lie. No, this year I find myself digger deeper in my Bible, searching for a Bible study that feeds my soul, and connecting with those around me as we learn more about the Lord and his love for us. The Lord taught me a lot in 2019. He taught me to trust him more deeply and to shut out the noise and focus on him. Every area of life was shaken in 2019, and guess what? God provided. He was there every step of the way. In fact, he made the way. Last year I learned what it was to truly lean into God and trust him in all things, seen and unseen. Friend, he is faithful. I wish I could tell you just how faithful, but that blog is for another day.

2020 is going to be another year, it will be 366 (leap year!) days , and it will go by just like last year. I am going into this year with a new perspective, new goals, and a new joy. I am going to take time to slow down and enjoy watching my little girl spin in the living room when music comes on. I am going to enjoy hearing the nightly prayers of our five little ones, listening to what is on their hearts. I am going to make time for my husband and I, and maybe even take a little trip just the two of us. Most of all, I am going to enjoy my time with the Lord, growing deeper in my relationship with him.

I don’t know what hopes and dreams you have for 2020, friend. I do have hope that you will seek the Lord for what he has for you this year. 2019 taught me that my plans are nothing in comparison to Gods plans. His plans, they are so much better than anything you or I could come up with.

Blessings to you and your family in 2020. Happy New Year!

The life behind the blogger -HZ

I want to be a noticer of the good and eager to speak the rare word, a kind word. -Lysa Terkeurst

I am a true believer that there is good and bad in this world. It is my responsibility to make the daily choice of which of those categories I am going to fall into. I want to be the kind of person who see’s the good in the world. Am I perfect, nope. I am a work in progress, and I know that I am growing into who God is calling me to be daily.

So, who am I?

  • I am blessed to be the wife of a pretty awesome guy. We have been married for eleven years. Fun fact, We have been best friends since we were twelve years old.
  • I am the mom of five crazy, amazing, blessings.
  • I am a dreamer. I enjoy exploring the future in my mind. Remembering that my tomorrow is not restricted by my today.
  • I love country living. Goats, chickens, horses, cows, a few dogs, and a garden… Yep, that is me.
  • I am a homeschool mom. Does that make me a little crazy? Possibly. Although I enjoy all of the ups and downs that come with the daily journey of raising our little blessings.
  • Last, certainly not least… actually most importantly, I am a lover of my Heavenly Father. Everyday I am given the opportunity to walk in the love of Jesus, and share that with others.

We all have ups and downs in our lives, it is up to us what we do with them. I am a strong believer that my past doesn’t define my future. I have grown to be who I am through the good and the bad in my past, and I am so grateful to be who I am today. I am excited to use this blog to share my thoughts & life adventures with you all.

Let’s go a little deeper…

  • It is my hope that we can enjoy the craziness of my busy life together. I’m sure we will share lots of laughs, adventure, occasional tears, and excitement.
  • Fun topics to come: Food, because who doesn’t love to eat? Mom life, and the craziness of our five kiddos. DIY, we are big on DIY! Wife life, because sometimes we all need a little girl talk.
  • If you have found my page, then this blog is for you. I want to be an encouragement to you. So laugh at me… I mean with me. Lets laugh together as my blog grows.
